At
Lynch and Partners an estimate of costs is provided
to clients prior to the commencement of any work and
these estimates can be relied upon as an accurate reflection
of the final bill. Clients are also alerted in advance
if the estimate provided needs to be altered due to unforeseeable
circumstances.
The ‘Bill of Costs’ or invoice prepared at
Lynch and Partners is based on three elements
as is the case in most other solicitors’ firms:
1. FEES
The fees charged by solicitors reflect the time spent
by the solicitor and his/her staff on a client’s
case. In turn the time spent on any given case will
be determined by a variety of factors such as the complexity
of the case, the seriousness of the case, the specialised
knowledge required to handle the case etc. etc.
2. DISBURSEMENTS
Disbursements are ‘out of pocket’ expenses
which the solicitor pays on your behalf during the course
of his / her work. These can include items such as engineers’ costs,
medical reports, barristers’ costs and witness
costs.
3. V.A.T.
Solicitors must charge V.A.T. at 21 % for their services
and this sum is shown separately.
